Oakland. Joaquin Miller. Early, at first only myself and a trail runner, our lights shining on each other. Then came the warm sun, this moment, and the glorious redwoods.

Buffalo. Zimbabwe. The daily pilgrimage to the local water hole each evening. Often, so many came, I had to wait for the dust to settle before it was possible to determine if they numbered a couple of dozen for the day or a couple hundred.
